This is a fictional exploration of a real-life event that occurred to a white twenty-nine year old woman from Canada. Hired by an American company to market a soft drink, she would often travel between Canada and the United States for work. When she realized her NAFTA work visa had expired by two days, she went to the San Diego embassy to have it renewed. She was detained for several days before being moved to a detention center in Arizona. Told she had no rights and would not be allowed a lawyer or a phone call, she sank into a deep depression not knowing when, or if, she might be freed.
